Using the CoF Plotter

Device(s)
Helpdesk Plotter

The Computing Helpdesk now gives you the option of plotting your poster for you. To take advantage of this, simply send your document to COF.Plotter@oregonstate.edu at least two full business days prior to the time you need the poster along with the index number you would like to charge the poster to.

  • All jobs will be sent to the plotter in PDF format.
  • Helpdesk will convert the document you send to PDF (if it is from a Supported Application) and send it to you for confirmation that it looks correct.
  • If the PDF does not look correct, it is your responsibility to modify and re-submit the document to COF.Plotter@oregonstate.edu.
  • The two day turnaround clock starts once you confirm the final PDF version of your document.
  • Price is based on actual paper usage (not document size) and is calculated automatically by the plotter.
  • Please allow at least a one inch margin - to maximize paper usage when printing on 36" paper, one of your document edges should be 35". A 20" x 20" poster will be calculated at approximately 36" x 21" size due to minimum roll width and margin.
  • Rush Jobs with a 4 hour turnaround time, between the hours of 8-5, may be possible on a case-by-case basis with an added one hour consulting fee ($60). This service is limited by available staff time and is NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE.
  • Helpdesk will send you a confirmation e-mail when your plotter job is complete.
  • Completed posters will be kept at the helpdesk until signed for and picked up by the requesting person.

Types of Media Available

  • HP DesignJet 5500PS — (RH201N) – UV Inks
  • 36” Coated Paper (Draft)
  • 36” Semi-gloss Photo Paper
  • 36” High-gloss Photo Paper
  • 60” Coated Paper (Draft)
  • 60” Semi-gloss Photo Paper
  • 60” High-gloss Photo Paper

Document Tips

Page Size
Allow for margins in your application page size vs. your paper size.
For example, Document = 34x46 and Custom Paper size = 36 x 48.

HP DesignJet 5500PS minimum printing margins are 1” on each edge.

Plotter Fees

Plotter printing currently costs $7.00/sq. ft. for glossy prints and $6.50/sq. ft. for draft quality prints. Fees will be charged to the index number provided for the account that sent the job to the plotter. Charges will be posted to the index accounts at the end of each month. Please contact the helpdesk if you need to discuss plotting charges made to your account.

Lamination

The College of Forestry does not provide lamination services for plot jobs. If you plan on taking the poster somewhere that uses a hot lamination process, like Kinko’s, then you will need to use semi-gloss or draft quality paper as the high-gloss paper interferes with the lamination process.
