Frequently Asked Question

Excel: I am making a line graph. I have a column of data, that I want to be the labels for the x-axis data. (ie, a column of dates, that I want to be the labels, rather than 1,2,3...) How do I do this?

The information in this article applies to:

Application(s)
Microsoft Excel

Operating System(s)
MacOS
Windows XP

Answer

After you have entered the graph wizard, the first screen will have two options for you to change. The first is DATA RANGE. The second is SERIES. Click on SERIES. At the bottom of the box, there is a part which says "Category (X) axis labels". Click on the text box next to this, and then highlight the column of data you wish to use as labels.
