Education

  • BS (Hons. Forestry. 1991), University of Edinburgh. United Kingdom.
  • PhD (1998) University of Edinburgh. United Kingdom. Institute of Ecology and Resource Management.
Topic: Impacts of drought on the hydraulic physiology of Pinus sylvestris L.
    Supervisor: Prof. John Grace.

Research Interests :

Physiological processes controlling the exchange of carbon and water between forested ecosystems and the atmosphere. In particular studying,

  • Forest age related aspects of transpiration and coupling to ecosystem carbon exchange.
  • The magnitude and components of ecosystem respiration; linkages between carbon assimilation and respiration.
  • Unraveling the seasonal and inter-annual controls of net carbon exchange in water limited ecosystems.
  • Novel measurement approaches and instrumentation.
